Abyss clean up online Tainiomania. In 2016, the CNR and the La Sapienza University of Rome published a study on the discovery of a huge landfill in the depths of the underwater canyons of the Strait of Messina. This waste deposit, identified thanks to the use of a sophisticated ROV, a remotely operated wire-guided underwater vehicle, does not represent an isolated case, but rather the example of a phenomenon also found in several other marine depths in the world, from Gibraltar to Nice, from Korea to Africa. With the aid of the latest generation of sophisticated technical means, the film documents the underwater exploration conducted at the end of June 2023 by the director together with marine geologists from the CNR, marine biologists and robotics engineers, in the suggestive stretch of sea that connects the Tyrrhenian Sea with the Ionian Sea, over 600 meters deep.
